Executive Director of Arkansans for Improving Maternal Health (AIM), Ashley Bearden Campbell, kicked off AIM’s tour of Arkansas today with visits to the Central Arkansas Diaper Bank, the UAMS Milk Bank, and the new NICU facility at Unity Health.
“We want to learn more about the landscape of maternal health resources in Arkansas – understanding what’s available to Arkansans, which areas may be lacking resources, the challenges healthcare providers face and how we can better support mothers and families throughout the state,” said Bearden Campbell.
“As a mom who relied on donor milk for the first few weeks of my daughter’s life, I know how vital this facility truly is to babies in Arkansas,” said Bearden Campbell.
The Milk Bank also serves as a community resource for:
- Breastfeeding classes and counseling for new mothers
- Infant safety including safe sleep programs and car seat checks
- Virtual and in-person support for lactation services and practices
- Milk donation after loss and bereaved donation support
After months of planning, Tracy Bolton and neonatologists Dr. Kevin Barnett and Dr. Preston Pugh officially opened the beautiful new NICU unit in July, allowing families in White County to stay close to their babies as they receive intensive care.
