LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (October 17, 2024) — In recognition of Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, Arkansans for Improving Maternal Health (AIM) and the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) Milk Bank are proud to honor the mothers and families who have experienced the heartbreaking loss of a child.
At the UAMS Milk Bank, its “My Love Lives On – Witt Clinton Hays Memorial” program allows bereaved mothers to donate breast milk in memory of their lost child. These selfless donations give grieving mothers the opportunity to transform their loss into an act of love that helps feed vulnerable babies across Arkansas.
“We stand alongside these mothers in their grief, holding space for the deep, unbreakable love they will always have for their babies. Through the act of donating their milk, they extend that love by nourishing other vulnerable babies in need. It is a powerful testament to their strength amidst profound loss and we honor these moms and the memory of their child.” said Ashley Bearden Campbell, Executive Director of AIM.
Dr. Misty Virmani, Executive and Medical Director of the UAMS Milk Bank added, “The My Love Lives On program is a meaningful way to honor both the babies who are no longer with us and those who can be helped through their legacy. We are humbled to work with these mothers and be a part of their healing journey.”
As AIM and UAMS Milk Bank continue to observe Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, they are committed to underscoring the need to provide vital resources, support, and a pathway for healing to bereaved mothers. Maternal health must be a top priority for Arkansans.
